OVERHEARD

FIRST VOICE: "Our Radar has you on a collision course with us. You should alter your course 10 degrees South."

SECOND VOICE: "We have you on our Radar. Suggest you alter your course 10 degrees North."

FIRST VOICE: "We have Admiral Goodman aboard. STRONGLY suggest you bear 10 degrees South. This is a BATTLESHIP!"

SECOND VOICE: "This is Seaman Farnsworth. Still suggest you bear 10 degrees North. This is a LIGHTHOUSE."

F I R E

 

FIRST PERSON SEEING FIRE IMMEDIATELY:

1. YELL "FIRE" - NOTIFY CAPTAIN.

2. "ATTACK" FIRE WITH EXTINGUISHER / FIRE HOSE.
ATTACK = TO BE EFFECTIVE - GET IN CLOSE TO FIRE.

 

CAPTAIN IMMEDIATELY:

1. SOUND 6 SHORT BLASTS ON HORN - ALERTING CREW.

2. ACTIVATE PUMPS AND BILGES AS NECESSARY.

3. MANEUVER VESSEL TO GO WITH THE WIND.

4. NOTIFY COAST GUARD IF ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED - PAN-PAN.

 

CREW IMMEDIATELY:

1. ASSIST BY "ATTACKING" WITH FIRE EXTINGUISHERS AND FIRE HOSES.

2. SHUT ALL DOORS AND HATCHES - SHUT OFF ALL VENTILATION /
AIR CONDITIONING.

M A N O V E R B O A R D

 

FIRST PERSON SEEING PERSON FALL OVERBOARD IMMEDIATELY:

1. YELL "MAN OVERBOARD" - NOTIFY CAPTAIN.

2. THROW LIFE RING - CONTINUE THROWING OBJECTS THAT FLOAT INTO WATER CREATING A "TRAIL" THE BOAT CAN FOLLOW ONCE IT TURNS AROUND.

3. KEEP EYES ON PERSON AND ARM EXTENDED POINTING TO PERSON IN WATER.

 

CAPTAIN IMMEDIATELY:

1. TOUCH MOB (Man Over Board) ON GPS

AND

2. SOUND 5 SHORT BLASTS ON HORN - ALERTING CREW AND OTHER VESSELS.

AND

3. TURN FOR 60 DEGREES - THEN TURN OPPOSITE WAY COMING AROUND FULL 180 (+60`) DEGREES ONTO ORIGINAL COURSE TRACK (AT CRUISE SPEED BEFORE SLOWING DOWN).

4. MANEUVER VESSEL ALONGSIDE UPWIND OF VICTIM.

5. PUT IN NEUTRAL (AND SHUT ENGINES OFF).

6. NOTIFY COAST GUARD IF ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED - PAN-PAN.

 

CREW IMMEDIATELY:

1. RIG LINE TO LIFE RINGS / LIFE JACKETS TO TOSS TO VICTIM.

2. CREW MEMBER PUT ON MUSTANG SUIT / LIFE JACKET WITH LINE ATTACHED - GO INTO WATER TO ASSIST IF NECESSARY.

3. ANOTHER CREW MEMBER GET HANDHELD VHF OR HEADSET TO COMMUNICATE WITH CAPTAIN.

1. EVERYONE IN SURVIVAL SUITS / LIFEJACKETS. (30 seconds)

2. TRANSMIT "MAYDAY" MESSAGE.

3. LAUNCH DISTRESS SIGNALS (FLARES).

4. TAKE HANDHELD VHF, GPS, EPIRB AND FLARES.

5. GO TO LIFEBOAT STATIONS: - BOW LINE CREW GO TO PORT LIFEBOAT STATION / FWD STATION - STERN LINE CREW GO STBD LIFEBOAT STATION / AFT STATION. ASSIST ONE ANOTHER FROM ASSIGNED AREA.

6. ABANDON SHIP - 6 SHORT BLASTS / 1 LONG BLAST.

7. LAUNCH LIFERAFT / DINGY - (TIME PERMITTING, ANYTHING THAT FLOATS TO FURTHER ASSIST CREW IN WATER AND TO GIVE A BIGGER VISUAL TARGET FROM THE AIR)

8. STAY WITH OR NEAR BOAT IF POSSIBLE.
